As I’m sure you saw in our itinerary, once we’re done with Machu Picchu, we’ll be flying to Iguaza falls and then we’ll be taking buses for every leg between there and when we depart Buenos Aires for Delhi. So, we need to find the following bus routes:
"The craziest part of RTW travel is that so many people think it is out of reach for them. Yet people waste money constantly on things that don't make them happy. In life, you can buy things or you can buy experiences. I have found that experiences make me much happier. For the cost of a used car, you can actually go see the world. All it takes is the courage to dream big and then set goals and make it happen."
RTW 1.0 Itinerary
Ta Da! Here’s a sneak peak at our itinerary. We only had to print out about 10 different calendars before we got it nailed down.
Pre-Thailand Trip (RTW 1.0) is Booked!
It took a couple full days, a lot of playing around with our itineraries, all of the airline miles that we’ve been saving, and a couple of angry phone calls to Cheap Tickets, but we’re finally pretty much all set with the two month trip we’re taking before moving to Thailand, and all I have to say is that it’s going to be AWESOME.
Telling the Parents
Dave and I have been talking about taking a RTW trip since we met a year and a half ago. We never had a set time-frame, but we always knew it was something we were going to do. As I’ve mentioned before, originally, we were planning to just take a 4-5 month trip around the world. We devised our plan for RTW 1.0 (as we like to call it) in October while we were on a trip to Texas. After speaking to Dave’s old roommate about a trip that he was taking similar to our RTW 1.0, he gave us the moving and teaching idea when he was telling us about his itinerary and about a friend he was staying with in Thailand who did just that.
Are We Crazy?
Dave always asks me if I think people will think we’re crazy for not wanting to settle down and for always being on the go… In my opinion, why wouldn’t we keep trying new things and new places until we find somewhere or something that makes us completely satisfied? If we didn’t, yes we’d be settling down (which I know is what the majority of people want to do), but we’d also just be settling. Work is the thing that takes up the majority of everyone’s time in life, so don’t we owe ourselves at least a year to not only do something we know we’ll love, but also to figure out a way to turn the things we love to do most in life (in our case travel) into something that could be a career for us? I think we do and I think that is going to be exactly what this year is for Dave and me.
I know it’s scary, but I think that this is going to be the best thing that ever happened to us (aside from finding each other, of course)!
“Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity. And you’re keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls…are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.”
